PEQUIVEN: Modernization Project for the 480V Motor Control Center at the Olefins I Plant

This project comprised the execution of a comprehensive preventive maintenance plan and the upgrade of power components for the RT603C and RT604C transforectifiers, as well as their associated control systems at the Chlor-Soda Plant of the Ana María Campos Petrochemical Complex. The intervention was designed to identify imminent risks and ensure the operational continuity of these critical assets through advanced diagnostics and technical semiconductor replacement.
Operational Diagnosis: Execution of detailed inspections, technical interviews, and historical data analysis by connecting to the AC800PEC control system to evaluate system behavior under load.
Power and Control Maintenance: Retightening of electrical and mechanical connections on AC/DC busbars, control panels, cooling systems, and power units.
Protections Certification: Point-to-point testing of alarms and trips in transformers, rectifiers, and cooling units, including Buchholz relays, flow sensors, and temperature sensors.
Semiconductor Upgrade: Specialized management of thyristor replacement, including segregation processes, contact area cleaning, and precision torque adjustment.
Control Optimization: Calibration of transducers, software backups, and current balance adjustments using specialized equipment such as the RCEM meter.
A multidisciplinary team specialized in transforectifier technology was deployed to cover everything from preliminary inspection with operational equipment to the load testing phase, guaranteeing the correct integration of the AC800PEC software and the validation of all instrumentation variables (voltage, current, and temperature) before final delivery.
Proyelec’s intervention allowed for the restoration of the transforectifiers’ original design standards, mitigating the risk of unscheduled shutdowns at the Petrochemical Complex. Through the use of high-end instrumentation—such as thermal cameras, oscilloscopes, and semiconductor testers—the company guaranteed precise calibration of the supervisory system and balanced current distribution, extending equipment lifespan and strengthening the reliability of the Chlor-Soda Plant.
