MAUREL&PROM Electrical Testing of 35 kV, 1/0 AWG Three-Core Submarine Cables

2023. Venezuela

The project involved specialized inspection and diagnostic services to validate the physical and electrical conditions of ten (10) reels of 35 kV 1/0 AWG tripolar submarine cable. This critical component, featuring an aluminum conductor and armored configuration, is a strategic part of the power laying project in the Urdaneta Field, connecting the Main Production Plant (PPP) with the EUD-1 station in Lake Maracaibo. Inspection operations were centralized at the La Salina Refrigeration Plant, located on the Eastern Shore of the Lake, Zulia State.

Physical and Electrical Condition Inspection: Detailed assessment of the integrity of all submarine cable reels.

Continuity and Shield Resistance Testing: Technical verification of shields to ensure the galvanic and operational protection of the conductor.

High Voltage Insulation Tests: Rigorous testing to guarantee the necessary dielectric strength in submerged environments.

Conductor Length Verification: Certification of material dimensions to ensure compliance with the project’s laying goals.

This technical intervention in the Urdaneta Field ensured that the materials destined for an infrastructure as demanding as a subaqueous environment met the highest standards of safety and reliability. By securing the integrity of these 35 kV conductors, Proyelec contributes to the operational efficiency of the oil industry, transforming specialized knowledge into solutions that drive the country’s economy and well-being.
